Timelessly beautiful: Buy items at Frankfurt! 2024
Timelessly beautiful - the ravages of time gnaw at us all. But can the natural-biological process be cheated?
"Mirror, mirror, on the wall..." Beauty and youth often go together, and not just in art and literature. While the longing for eternal youth has always seemed to preoccupy people, our society today is characterized by a real cult of youth. Who hasn't secretly dreamed of being able to stop the aging process with a miracle cure? But unfortunately it's not that simple. However, this is no reason to despair if you believe the promises of the cosmetics industry. The market for anti-aging products is booming and offers an almost unmanageable range of rejuvenating creams, serums, masks, oils and all sorts of remedies. Even if not all of them deliver what they promise, the market actually offers one or two cosmetic fountains of youth. But how do you find the right product and which active ingredients can you rely on?
With vitamin C and retinol against skin aging
"There are two substances whose effects have been scientifically proven. These are high doses of vitamin C and retinol," explains Dr. Heidi Dötterer-Rieg, specialist in dermatology and allergology. She is the owner of the Cosmetic Institute Dermasthetics and the attached dermatology practice on Goethestrasse. "These two substances help reduce wrinkles and promote collagen production in the skin. This stops as we get older, which ultimately leads to skin aging." Both active ingredients are antioxidants that offer protection against free radicals and refine the complexion. However, you have to be a little more careful when using retinol, as it also has skin-irritating functions. You should therefore start with low concentrations.
Skin moisture with ceramides and hyaluronic acid
“Over time, the production of moisture also decreases. It helps to strengthen the skin barrier. For example, with ceramides or hyaluronic acid,” says Dötterer-Rieg. Ceramides are lipids, the skin's own fats, which protect the skin from environmental influences and moisture loss. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to bind water. The skin appears plumper and wrinkles caused by dryness are reduced. "For deep wrinkles However, it doesn't work. Then the syringe has to go,” said the expert.
Skin care from the mid-20s
In order to have good results well into old age, you should start skin care as early as possible. In fact, starting in your mid-20s, you lose one percent of collagen every year. “So it starts relatively early, even though we don’t even see it yet. Of course, genetics and environmental influences also play a big role,” says Dötterer-Rieg.
Sun protection and anti-aging
"The most important anti-aging agent is definitely good sun protection. This creates a lot of radicals and these in turn lead to oxidative stress, which damages various cell functions." You should note that not only is UVA+UVB protection covered, but that you are also protected from infrared and blue light radiation. In addition to natural light, tablets, smartphones, all other screens and artificial light are also blue light sources.
Slow down biological clock
If you want to slow down the biological clock, you should not only have the right skin care but also ensure enough sleep, exercise, a balanced diet and enough fluids. In the end, the same applies here as in general: The natural one Aging process of the skin can only be delayed, but never completely stopped. Thus, the dream of eternal youth is an unattainable ideal. But who knows what the future will bring?
