Painless treatment with KTP laser

Removal of dilated vessels

Our dermatologists can successfully eliminate redness and small vascular changes such as couperose, telangiectasia, hemangiomas, rosacea using the laser (KTP laser).

How does laser therapy work?

The high-energy green laser beam penetrates the upper layers of skin and takes effect in the hemoglobin (red blood pigment). Here, the green light is converted into heat, allowing unwanted blood vessels to be selectively sealed. Laser treatment with the KTP laser is virtually painless. A slight tingling sensation may be felt during the treatment; cooling before and after the procedure reduces sensitivity.

How many treatments are necessary?

The treated areas heal after some time (up to several weeks) and the completely sealed vessels disappear. Depending on the size, depth, and thickness of the vessels, the therapy may need to be repeated several times. Follow-up treatment of the same area should not be performed until at least four weeks have passed.

Duration of treatment

Depending on the size of the skin area to be treated, the actual laser treatment can take up to 30 minutes. Larger areas require treatment in several sessions.

Possible side effects

Occasionally, pigmentation irregularities may occur, which disappear after a few weeks. Tanned skin may lose pigmentation and lighten in the treated areas. Intense sunbathing or visits to tanning salons can lead to excessive tanning of the treated areas. Therefore, these should be avoided for the next four weeks. Sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF 50) should be used daily.

After treatment

Ideally, the blood vessels should be completely closed or at least narrowed after the laser treatment. To avoid compromising the success of the treatment, you should avoid hot showers, saunas (for four weeks), sports, and similar activities in the days following the treatment.
