Neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis therapy

Neurodermatitis, also known as atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis, is a common inflammatory skin disease in Germany with an increasing incidence. Weeping, inflamed areas of skin associated with severe itching often appear in infancy.

Our dermatologist Dr. Heidi Dötterer-Rieg is a trained neurodermatitis trainer.

Causes and Emergence

The symptoms mentioned above can be explained by a reduced protective function of the skin. In addition, a connection between neurodermatitis and allergies (atopy) has been researched in the past. This means that patients with neurodermatitis often also suffer from allergies (e.g. pollen, house dust and food).

Diagnosis

In addition to the clinical picture of the neurodermatitis, the collection of the medical history and also the family history is essential. Due to the allergological relevance, a corresponding clarification is useful. A sample of the skin can also be taken and histologically examined to confirm a suspected diagnosis.

Therapy

We look at neurodermatitis holistically. The focus is on avoiding or reducing the triggering factors. Thanks to many years of dermatological experience, these can be found out despite the multitude of possible factors. There is currently no cure for the disease, but it can be easily treated with, for example:

  1. Allergic therapy
  2. treatment of itching
  3. Measures to strengthen skin protection
  4. Individual skin care
  5. Nutritional consultation
