Cysts

treatment of cysts

A cyst is a cavity in different parts of the body, which is often filled with liquid, for example with sebum, and often becomes encapsulated. Cysts are always benign and only cause symptoms when they have reached a certain size. The most common cysts affecting the skin are epidermal cysts.

Causes and Emergence

Cysts are caused by blocked sebaceous glands, traumatic effects, acne or immunosuppressive drugs.

Diagnosis

A trained dermatologist's eye is often sufficient to recognize the hemispherical epidermal cysts or atheromas on the skin's surface.

Therapy

The mere presence of a cyst is often not an indication for therapy. However, if it develops to a size where there is a risk of surrounding tissue being displaced, or if it becomes inflamed, it definitely needs to be operated on. In the case of an inflamed cyst, you first have to wait until the inflammation has subsided and then surgically remove it completely with the capsule.
